Breast AugmentationBreasts get a lot of attention and especially from the opposite sex. But many women know very little about them. Here’s a quick list of facts to help women get to know their breasts a little bit better.

  • If you smoke your breasts will sag more than non-smokers. That’s because the chemicals in cigarettes break down the body’s elastin.
  • The average breast weighs 1.1 lbs and contains 4-5% of the body’s fat.
  • Humans are the only species to have permanently enlarged breasts.
  • Bra-like garments have existed for women since the 7th century B.C., although large scale production didn’t start until the 1930’s.
  • The left breast is usually larger. Like hands, feet and other paired body parts, no two are exactly alike. Experts aren’t sure why, but it’s your left breast that usually has more tissue giving it the size advantage.
  • Sleeping face down will change a breast’s shape over time. The best sleeping style for your breasts is on your side with a pillow under them for support.
  • In the early days of surgical breast augmentation, surgeons used implants made from a number of peculiar ingredients – including ox cartilage, glass balls, polyester and ground rubber – all with disastrous results.
  • Nearly everyone, men and women, have nipple hair.
  • Some women have on nipple wider than the other. It’s perfectly normal.
  • Exercise will keep you fit, but it won’t keep breasts firm as they don’t contain muscle. Using weights to tone your pectoral muscles can boost breasts, but eventually gravity will cause them to sag.
  • Research conducted at the Victoria University of Wellington in the UK showed that breasts are often the first thing men look at, and for a longer time than other body parts. No surprises there.
