Buttock augmentation surgery uses implants, fat grafting or sometimes a combination of the two to increase the size and shape of your buttocks. This surgery can increase the fullness, roundness and projection of your buttocks, and improve the balance of your figure.

There are two types of buttock augmentation procedures you can have:

  • The Brazilian Butt Lift in which fat is transferred from areas in the body where there is excess such as the thighs, abdomen, hips and waistline
  • Implantation where a specially made implant is inserted above the gluteal muscle.

What are the implants of a buttock augmentation made of?

If you are between a size 0 to 4 or physically fit to the point where you do not have excess fat stored in your body that can be used to augment your buttock, an implantation procedure is recommended. Instead of fat injections, an implant made of solid silicone is used.

  • These implants cannot break or leak fluid into your body
  • Like fat transplantation, implants will give you the desired round and firmer contours on your buttocks
  • An incision is placed just below your tailbone and the implants are inserted
  • The implants are placed above the muscle
  • It’s important to note that you do not actually sit on the implant because of how it is placed
    • Patients often worry about this, but the implant is placed higher than the bones on which you use to sit

How long does a buttock augmentation take?

This type of surgery usually takes between 1-2 hours. A buttock augmentation procedure is a specialized practice that’s not available at all cosmetic surgery clinics. We, however, are adept at this procedure and are confident you will be amazed with your results.

There are some important elements to remember about this procedure:

  • You will be given anesthesia
  • The incision made between the buttocks and the midline is only 2-3 inches long
  • A pocket is made above the muscle
  • The implant is inserted into the pocket
  • The process is repeated for the other side of the buttocks
  • Each side is examined to ensure that they are symmetrical
  • Dissolvable stiches are placed in the skin incision
  • A compression bandage will be placed on the area to reduce discomfort and swelling
  • Since this procedure is usually done on an outpatient basis, you will be able to leave within an hour or two after your procedure
  • You may experience discomfort for the first several days after your operation and may have trouble finding a comfortable position to rest in
  • If possible, ensure that a friend or relative can attend to you on your first night after surgery as you will have trouble getting in and out of bed
  • The dressing that is applied during surgery can be removed within 2-3 days following your procedure
  • After three days, you can take a shower
    • A bath will be almost impossible as you may not be able to find a comfortable position to soak in
  • You can resume your active lifestyle after 4 weeks
    • This includes running, walking, bicycling and weight work
  • Some people feel comfortable going back to work after 1 week while others need more time to rest
    • Please use your discretion and only return to work when you feel completely at ease with your new and improved buttocks
  • We will prescribe pain medication to help ease your discomfort
    • Do not mix this medication with home remedies or any other drugs unless directed by us or your primary doctor

When will I see results of a buttock augmentation?

You will see the results of your buttock augmentation almost immediately. Most people notice a difference in their rear-ends about 1 week post-surgery. However, there are things to remember about this type of augmentation:

  • As you recover the muscles will stretch and become softer, returning your buttocks to a more natural shape
  • After  several months, your buttocks will appear completely as it should: firmer, higher and smoother
  • Over time, be wary of significant weight gain and loss as this could change the shape of your buttock
  • Stick to a balanced diet and maintain an exercise regime
  • If you have received a buttock augmentation through a fat transfer procedure, you need to remember that, on average, patients will retain 60-80% of the transferred fat but not all of it
    • This will not affect the full look of your augmented buttocks

How does a butt implant feel?

Because these implants are made of solid silicone they look and feel natural.

  • Although silicone is also used for breast implants, this type does not feel like breast tissue
  • If you’re someone who has little tissue in their backside, you may be able to feel your implants and even see them in the mirror
    • This is exceptionally rare, as most patients who have the procedure done cannot feel or see their implants
    • If you do possess little tissue in your rear-end, and have sufficient fat,  we will discuss the fat transfer procedure with you instead of the implantation surgery

How long do butt implants last?

When fat transfer is used for butt enhancement, the outcome is more variable and follow-up injections may be necessary. However, butt implants are permanent and require no follow-up implantations as you age.

How much does a buttock augmentation cost?

  • There is a facility fee and an anesthesia fee
  • The cost is approximately $7500 + HST
