How much does a forehead lift cost?

A brow/forehead lift is a procedure that is commonly referred to as a browplasty. This surgical procedure is done to change the position of the soft tissues of the forehead and consequently alter the appearance of the upper face. Moreover, this procedure reduces the effects of aging like the sagging of the skin in the eyebrows and above the nose and forehead wrinkles

What are the procedural steps of a forehead lift?

1. Anesthesia:

  • Depending on the extent of the procedure, it can be done under local or general anesthesia
  • This will be discussed with you during you consultation

2. Incision:

  • There are two ways for brow lifts to be performed:
    • Endoscopic incision
      • A thin tube with a camera on the end (endoscope) is placed through small incisions made within the hairline
      • The tissue and muscle beneath the skin is adjusted
      • Creases and furrows in the forehead are corrected
    • Coronal incision
      • An incision is made from ear to ear across the top of the head
      • The forehead skin is lifted to adjust any muscle that is causing creases and furrows
      • For women with high foreheads, an incision may be made at the anterior hairline
      • This allows the brow to be lifted without the height of the front hairline being altered

3. Closing the incisions:

  • Incisions done during a brow lift procedure are closed with:
    • Removable or absorbable sutures
      • This is the most common
      • Staples

How should I prepare for a forehead lift?

Before forehead lift surgery we will give you specific instructions for your preparation.

  • If you have short hair, you should consider growing it out before surgery
    • This will hide any scars while they heal
  • Stop smoking at least 2 weeks before surgery
    • You will also need to be smoke free for 2 weeks following your surgery, as this will help increase healing times
  • Two weeks before surgery you will need to limit your alcohol consumption
  • If you take aspirin or other anti-inflammatory drugs, you will have to cease taking them before your surgery
    • These drugs (even those that are over-the-counter) can increase your chances of bleeding during your procedure

What are the benefits of a forehead lift?

A forehead lift possesses many benefits besides making you look more youthful. A forehead lift also:

  • Reduces any wrinkle lines that develop horizontally across the forehead
  • Reduces any wrinkle lines that occur between the eyes
  • Improves frown lines which are the vertical creases that develop between the eyebrows
  • Raises sagging brows that hood around the upper eyelids
  • Places the eyebrows in a more pleasing position

How long is the recovery period after a forehead lift?

Everyone recovers at their own pace, but it typically takes about 7-14 days to recover from a forehead lift.

    • Sleep as upright as possible by propping yourself up on several pillows
    • If you can, sleep in a lounge chair
    • If you have trouble sleeping upright or in a chair, purchase a small neck pillow (the kind you can buy for a flight) and wear it to bed
  • You should be able to return to work within 7 - 14 days of your surgery
  • Do not exercise while you recover and wait at least 1 month before doing any strenuous activities
